The YAF Program – Chamber Music, Community Engagement, and More

Chamber Music is at the center of YAF. With one to a part, players are simultaneous soloists, ensemble members, and conductors, developing aspects of musical training inaccessible to private lessons or youth orchestras. Enrolled students are eligible to participate in supplemental opportunities including faculty/guest-artist masterclasses, performance classes, and solo recitals throughout the year.

  • Fall Semester: August–November 2025

  • Winter/Spring Semester: January–April 2026

  • Summer: June 2026

Chamber Music

Chamber music teaches students the art of balancing leading and following as both an soloist and ensemble player. YAF teaches students to listen first, and respond accordingly, under the weekly guidance of accomplished teaching artists.

Masterclasses

Each year, YAF students with demonstrated preparation may participate in masterclasses taught by world-renowned guest artists. Open to the public, masterclasses are unique performance and shared learning opportunities with audiences.

Performance Class

Develop stage presence in Performance Class. Practice performing in front of others with live curated feedback by faculty. Learn to read, acknowledge and communicate with an audience.
