Preparing for the Stage​

 

Performing live on stage is presents its own challenges simply invisible to playing alone in a practice room. Successful performances are often tested and refined first in front of limited audiences, revealing a class of refinements only visible under pressure. By hosting Performance Seminars, YAF offers all students simulated stage opportunities​​​.

Students, especially those preparing for competitions and auditions, perform any work of their choice to test their practice, in front of the most challenging audience of all: faculty and their peers. Each Performance Class is run by faculty to provide direct feedback to build each student's experience in

• Performing live under pressure

• Stage presence and body language

• Reading and acknowledging audiences​​​​

• Public speaking

The next Performance Seminar will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026 as part of YAF's Summer 2026 session
